Hi.

Welcome to my web site. Here I share my experiences and lessons learned through the process of photographic discovery. You are welcome to comment.

Walking Santa Ana with the X-T20

I know Santa Ana covers areas beyond the park and the Central Avenue; nevertheless, I am still getting acquainted with the area, its people, and its streets. I am still learning how to explore such a vibrant, crowded, commercial area. One thing I am finding very comfortable is using my new Fuji X-T20.

The X-T20 comes to replace the other Fuji X-E2S. Don't get me wrong, both cameras are great, but I keep missing shots that'd required a flip screen for better composition on the run. I welcomed the X-T20 for its higher resolution, and much better handling of dynamic range and shadow recovery. But in practice, there are other advantages I am learning as I go which have to do about the dials…. man, the dials. It makes everything smoother when preparing for shots.

For instance, you see a couple of kids running a ball on the streets…. cool, kneel down, lift the flip screen to compose, and change the dial to “CH” (for rapid shots), and the lever to "C” (for continuous autofocusing), and boom! In less than a second you setup your camera for several quick shots. Or another example, one that I intend to practice more next time, you shoot a subject against a high contrast background, and pull a little lever and the flash pops up. This technique would help to improve noise recovery from subjects. I mean, I love the dials, little I need to enter the menu.

All following shots were taken with the Fuji XF 35mm F2. Next time I'll work with the bulky XF 23mm 1.4 and see how it goes.

Wow, what a beautiful lens
