For quite some time I have been lusting about the X-Pro2. Over and over again I reminded myself it is not about the gear, that taking good pictures is not conditioned by the camera you used, but by the time you put yourself into the practice of photography. Indeed, that's true. But an opportunity presented itself and I made a difficult choice to let go the marvelous X-T20 and a lens I couldn't justify any longer in order to pursue a gut feeling, and go after the X-Pro2.
Boy, I was wrong. It is about the gear. Not about the specs of the gear, but about how it makes you feel when you hold it in your hands. With the X-Pro2 I have been challenged. I feel it as a camera that demands perfection from its owner. I am far from perfect but this camera for the few hours we spent together it was a check on my ego, I can learn so much from it, and one day be a better skilled photographer.
This morning I spent some time on the streets of Santa Ana and Casco Viejo, with both the XF 35mm f2 and the XF 18mm f2, wonderful lenses, but having the ability to switch from optical to electronic viewfinder with the X-Pro2 made me more aware of the surroundings, of the opportunities for pictures, and yet failed constantly, but I remained persistent to shoot better.
Definitely, this is a different camera. I will take my time to explore street photography with it, and see how my feelings about it change over time. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy these pictures.
